One of my greatest pleasures is gathering women in my home for a daylong workshop. We eat things grown in the backyard garden. We talk. We ponder together a subject we are all drawn to, and have the luxury of listening and speaking to each other, with clarity. And the usual interruptions are not there.
Weekend retreats provide the same atmosphere, only they last a bit longer, with more time to develop relationships and more time to think, feel, and move around a topic without distractions. They take place in a number of beautiful natural settings and retreat centers, and there is plenty of free time for yoga, hiking, meditation, creative arts, lounging poolside, and play.
I find deep reassurance in travel. Especially in the beauty of people meeting each other and finding meaningful similarities with one another — despite their apparent differences in language, culture, and geography. Our international retreats offer women the chance to peek into other ways of living–respectful of the differences between us–welcoming the universal human connection. All the annoying (and sometimes stressful) logistics are handled in advance leaving room for openness, adventure and relaxation.

Private Client Sessions
Individual client sessions are available by telephone or in person at my downtown Palo Alto office. My therapeutic orientation is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy — a mindfulness based approach that aims at living one’s life to the fullest. I believe that the therapeutic agent of change is psychological contact, i.e., a genuine sense of connectedness between the therapist and client. Or, as Marion Woodman puts it, ‘What analysis is all about is for one hour a week, you sit and hope that for a flash of a moment you will experience connectedness.’ (I aim for more than a flash of a moment, though it’s a good starting point.) For new clients, please contact Nelly Cotto (650-492-3702 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
